Sorry As I Know it has been much too long... New News to share on Sharon: Sharon's friend Judy Gutowski Passes and New Art from Kerstien Matondang for Xmas!

I wanted to apologize to all the fans of Sharon that I have not gotten back to blogging sooner!

I certainly have missed everyone and of course, I miss Sharon.  This blog makes me feel at least a little close to who she really was.  I often reflect on all of the wonderful traits she had...

Anyway, back to some news...
Adam Bardach

My thoughts and prayers go out to Adam Bardach and to his family for the loss of his mother, Judy Wilson Gutowski Evans.  You'll remember that Adam's father is Gene Gutowski.  He and Judy were married when they knew Roman and Sharon.  Sharon was a very close friend to Judy and Gene.  Adam told a friend of mine that recently Judy passed away on Thanksgiving of this year.  I am truly sorry for your loss.

Sharon and Judy were the greatest of friends and Judy, I am told, missed Sharon very much.  You'll remember that Judy inherited Sharon's engagement ring from Roman when Sharon died.

RIP to Judy!

Adam Bardach recently has done a new documentary called "Ultrasuede: In Search of Halston" about the legendary fashion designer.  Here are some photos from the Premiere:

Producer Bardach with 'Halston' director Whitney Sudler-Smith.

The two at the Tribeca Film Festival.

I found this about the documentary:

UltraSuede: In Search of Halston

The new documentary by Whitney Sudler-Smith takes viewers on a fun-and-fact-filled journey through the life and times of the country’s first celebrity designer. "Ultraswede: In Search of Halston" will have its World Premiereon Friday, April 30th at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival.

Arguably, no one represents the 1970s quite like legendary designer Halston, and Sudler-Smith’s film, two years in the making, combines a prodigious amount of archival footage, (meticulously researched and sourced from every possible outlet), and stunning still photographs brought to thrilling life with imaginative 3D effects.

More importantly, there is a colorful array of interviews with various cohorts, commentators, witnesses, and survivors of Halston’s empire: Andre Leon Talley of Vogue, his best friend, Liza Minnelli; two of his leading models, Anjelica Huston and Pat Cleveland; fellow designers Diane von Furstenberg, Stephen Burrows, Naeem Khan, and Ralph Rucci; musicians Billy Joel and Nile Rogers (both of whom used “Halston” as a lyric in hit songs); journalists Bob Colacello and Glenn O’Brien (of Andy Warhol’s Interview), Jim Moore of GQ, Cathy Horyn of the New York Times, and Amy Fine Collins of Vanity Fair, among others.

Ultraswede: In Search of Halston" is produced by Adam Bardach, Anne Goursaud and Nicholas Simon; written by Anne Goursaud, and executive produced by Mark Urman and Shawn Simon. It will be presented as a gala special event under the festival’s “Tribeca Talks” rubric and will be followed by a panel including Talley, Smith, Cleveland, and Rucci, among others.

My best to you, Adam on your recent project and I am looking forward to more in the future.

Quote of the Week, Valley of the Dolls and Beyond Valley of the Dolls Fashions, Kerstien has more updates for her Sharon site and another artist who does some cool work

Quote of the Week:

By Photographer Peter Evans:

"The imperfect couple. They were the Douglas Fairbanks/ Mary Pickford of our time... cool, nomadic, talented and nicely shocking.

Their 'Pickfair' (Sharome?) was a movable mansion, a roomy rebellion. Curious, unafraid, they helped demolish the ancient Hollywood image of what movie stardom was all about.

They became part of the 'anti-establishment' establishment. They became rich but never regal."

Here is a lovely movie poster for Valley of the Dolls:

And speaking of VOTD, there is a mention of one of Sharon's outfits from it being used for Beyond the Valley of the Dolls:

Sharon wore this outfit first in VOTD.

Then, Dolly Read (in the middle) wore the exact same outfit in BTVOTD.

This is a wonderful drawing Kerstien did of Sharon as Sarah in "The Fearless Vampire Killers" a few years back.

If you would, please also leave Kerstien a message in her guestbook. It takes a lot of time and talented artistry to do what she does.  I'm sure she'd love to her any comments? :

Sharon's friend, Barbara Lewis is back singing:

Why, “Hello Stranger”: Barbara Lewis Is Back!  by BILL DUDLEY

The WAVE has been playing Queen Latifah‘s version of “Hello Stranger” recently, but did you know the song was first written and recorded by a legendary soul singer in the 1960s named Barbara Lewis ? Now in her 60′s, Barbara still has the voice that made her famous.

Barbara appeared at The Gibson Amphitheater last weekend as part of The Ladies of Soul tour along with Deniece Williams, Dorothy Moore, The Emotions, Shirley Brown and more featured.

I loved them all, but I primarily went to see Barbara. As a young kid back in ’63, I went into Studio Records in downtown Oakland looking for new sounds. The knowledgable man at the counter, Guy McKee, turned me on to what he called “a very talented teenager,” being Barbara Lewis. I bought “Hello Stranger” immediately, never knowing it would soon be a national hit and #1 song in the Bay Area. Her big voice was backed by a Hammond organ, and a not yet famous group, The Dells. Barbara soon followed up with “Make Me Your Baby” and “Baby I’m Yours” which are all now considered pop classics.

Barbara slipped out of the music business after an untimely incident in her life back in 1969. She was having dinner with Sharon Tate, just a few hours before she was murdered by The Manson Family. She’s back now touring with the Ladies of Soul around the U.S. and still sounds great. Her voice on ”Make Me Your Baby” and “Hello Stranger” are still two of my all-time favorite female vocals. What are your favorites ?

It must have really devastated her about Sharon's death... So sad...

Another blogger has started their own Sharon blog here:

And Sharon on Craig's List?  Yes, someone is selling a couple of pictures of her there in Kentucky:

And here is a lovely but sad song dedicated to Sharon and her baby, Paul Richard Polanski sent to me by a fan, Sam Michael Nardone.  Thanks so much for sending this:

Paul Richard

Copyright © 1992 by Sam Michael Nardone.

Dedicated to Sharon Tate, and her unborn baby, Paul Richard.

Paul Richard,

with so much love,

your mother cared for you.

You were the apple of her eye...

an unborn little child...

Chorus:

And no one knows,

how your mother prayed for your life,

with pleading cries:

but it was denied.

And all her tears...

and unspoken fears...

couldn't give you one more day...

couldn't make the darkness go away...

Inside you felt all her pain:

like thunder, lightening and rain...

Thunder, lightening and rain...

Paul Richard,

for eight long months,

your mother rejoiced over you.

You were protected inside...

until that night...

Chorus:

And no one knows,

how your mother prayed for your life,

with pleading cries:

but it was denied.

And all her tears...

and unspoken fears...

couldn't give you one more day...

couldn't make the darkness go away...

Inside you felt all her pain:

like thunder, lightening and rain...

Thunder, lightening and rain...

Paul Richard,

joyous in heaven,

with your mother by your side...

No more pain inside...

no more tears and cries...

Just happiness in the light of sunshine...

the light of sunshine...

Chorus:

And no one knows,

how your mother prayed for your life,

with pleading cries:

but it was denied.

And all her tears...

and unspoken fears...

couldn't give you one more day...

couldn't make the darkness go away...

Inside you felt all her pain:

like thunder, lightening and rain...

Thunder, lightening and rain...

FADE:

O beautiful Sharon so long ago,

I look at your portrait,

while hearing your sweet echo...
