2011 Anderson Germany Audi R8 Hyper Black

Audi R8 Hybird 2011

ANDERSON Germany from Dusseldorf helps a practically perfect Audi R8 with specific interventions to attract unlimited attention. First, the performance of 5.2 liter engine and 525 hp was increased, that provides now up to 8700 rpm, 589 hp and accordingly grown torque. This power increase was implemented through the Rennkats exhaust system (this alone allows to save 22 kg weight), a software optimization, and air filter modification. Of course, the exhaust path has a remote-controlled valve adjusting system that lets the driver opt from three different levels of noise. So much for the “inner values”.

Among external and thus visible changes, it is worth to mention exclusive carbon-coated 19-inch rims painted in body color with edging in Racing Orange style. Through the rim, the brake caliper is visible, of course, painted in Racing Orange as well.

On the other hand, the carbon exterior package should also be mentioned which, apart from the window frames, has “covered” various other parts like the front spoiler lip, rear spoiler for improved downforce, the rear diffuser and the mirror. All windows and rear lights were tinted. Last but not least is the expensive paint finish in black mirror which Anderson worthily called Hyper Black. This paint gives the R8 V10 somewhat a black soul.

The interior finish with matte black carbon fiber leather combined with orange Alcantara holds any comparison. At this point, this so-called carbon interior package includes the handbrake handle, the radio visor, the ashtray, the handles of the seat adjustment, door panels, and the side panels of the center console and shifter surround. And finally, the already first-rate sports steering wheel was additionally enhanced with visible carbon.

Engineless Concept Car

Ross Lovegrove has designed this beautiful car, focuses on organic form and its ability to touch people's soul and emotion. Lovegrove breaks down his design philosophy into one term: DNA - design, nature, art. Lovegrove has reinvented his work in order to keep up with current processes, he condenses design into natural growth patterns.

The City Car was an interesting way of simplifying a vehicle from 30,000 components into 300. The engine-less car works on solar power, which makes sense that he would utilize a natural power source as all of his work is based on nature. Lovegrove makes use of the solar power by having the car radiate light at night and transforming the car into a street lamp. By stripping it down to its bare minimum, the design displays the sound organic form of the cellulose structure of DNA.

2010 Aston Martin Rapide at NY Auto Show

Aston Martin Rapide side view

The Aston Martin Rapide took a long time to finally come to market and it seems like it’s taken almost just as long to go on public display. First shown in concept form at the Detroit Auto Show way back in 2006, the Rapide had its world premiere at the Frankfurt Auto Show last Fall. Since then both the LA and Detroit shows have come and gone, with Aston a no-show. Finally, North Americans (or at least New Yorkers) will get their first look at the Rapide when it goes on public display at the NY Auto Show in April.

BMW 1M

BMW 1M front view

Breaking from Detroit, BMW has released their new 1M sports car on North American shores. The long awaited BMW 1M features cost effective engineering solutions (ie. part sharing) to provide enthusiasts with the M experience at a more affordable price.

BMW’s 1M packs 340 hp spun from the N54 twin-turbo 3 liter inline six. 332 lb-ft of torque is on tap from low in the rev range, and in harmony with the M limited-slip differential, we see this as a recipe for tail out fun.

BMW intends to open the M brand up to a larger, younger demographic with the 1M – hoping to capture the M5 buyers of tomorrow.

Our editor Hugo Becker shares with us his first impressions of the 1M:

“The new 1 Series M in person is a bit more subtle than one feared (boy racer this isn’t). The front and rear fascia show the most distinction from the existing 1 series along with the flying biplane M3 side mirrors.

Where the difference between the existing 1 and the 1M really shows is in the wheels and brakes. The brakes have a very serious appearance – the floating calipers showing well even up against the stylish Brembos on the regular 135i.

The most striking element of the 1M is the the Valencia Orange paint. It is a polarizing color, more so than the Sedona Red launch color of the 1 Series. Fortunately it is also available in black or white.”

Be sure to check out our exclusive photo gallery from Detroit, and stick around for a video walk around of the 1M later today.

Audi R8 V10 Spyder at SEMA Motor Show

Audi R8 V10 Spyder

Audi is set to broaden the brand’s appeal by attending the annual SEMA tuning show in the US in an official capacity for the first time. And to mark the occasion in style, Audi of America has commissioned US-based tuner STaSIS Engineering to create a very special one-off R8.Based on the already-potent R8 Spyder V10, STaSIS has added a supercharger and sports exhaust to the engine, upping power from 518bhp and 530Nm to 700bhp and 709Nm. This chops a whole second from the 0-60mph time, with the tuned car completing the sprint in just 3.1 seconds.

To compliment the engine upgrades, STaSIS has also added bespoke Ohlins dampers, lowered the suspension by 20mm, added enlarged Alcon brakes and lightweight 20-inch wheels. STaSIS products are available through Audi dealers in the US, so if an approved dealer completes the modifications, buyers also get a four-year, 50,000-mile warranty. Also on display on Audi’s stand will be its autonomous TTS Pikes Peak technology concept, and an S5 Cabriolet, Q5 and S4 which have also been modified by STaSIS.

Audi A1 Hybird

Audi a1 hybird in red color

Audi will not only be displaying its all-new A1 minicar at October’s Tokyo Motor Show but it will also unveil its new hybrid drive system. Targeted at premium small cars such as BMW’s Mini, the new A1 will come as a three-door hatch and be priced less than €20,000 when it goes on sale in 2010.

Production of the new minicar will top 100,000 units per year and it may be joined by a new ’shooting brake’ mini-estate, a drop-top roadster and possibly a new Q1 mini-SUV, reports Auto Motor und Sport. The source also told that a mild hybrid option will be available as well as more conventional TSI and FSI petrol engines and TDI diesels.

This rendering gives us a preview as to what the final version may look likes and shows that designers are going with conventional hatchback styling and will incorporate Audi’s familiar oversized grille.

Sister brand Volkswagen, meanwhile, will showcase its own minicar concept at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show. The VW car will be built on a new low cost platform and will feature a rear-engined RWD layout and is expected to be sold in emerging markets for under €8,000.

2011 Mercury Mariner

2011 Mercury Mariner front view

2011 Mercury Mariner .In some ways, the Mariner is still a decent small crossover. The Mariner also offers a number of high-end features unavailable on most rivals, such as Ford's Sync voice-activated multimedia system. Other Mariner strong points are excellent crash test scores and the availability of a hybrid model (reviewed separately).

The 2011 Mercury Mariner compact SUV is available in four trim levels: base I4, base V6, Premier I4 and Premier V6. The Premier models add rear parking sensors, ambient interior lighting, heated front seats, leather upholstery (microfiber suede inserts are a no-cost option), a power driver seat, a six-speaker stereo, Sync and an auto-dimming rear view mirror.

Options for base models include a roof rack, a moon roof, Sync, leather upholstery (with heated front seats), a power driver seat and ambient interior lighting.

Power trains and Performance

The 2011 Mercury Mariner is available with either front- or all-wheel drive. EPA estimates are about average for this segment, with front-wheel-drive I4 models checking in at 20 miles per gallon city/28 mpg highway and 23 mpg combined (19/25/21 for AWD models), while front-wheel-drive V6 models are rated at 18 mpg city/26 highway/21 combined (17/24/20 for AWD models).

Safety

Anti lock brakes (albeit with rear drums), traction control, stability control, front-seat side airbags and full-length head curtain airbags with a rollover sensor are all standard equipment on the 2011 Mercury Mariner.

Unfortunately, the Mariner's braking performance is poor. From 60 mph, the Ford Escape we tested (mechanically identical to the Mariner) required 138 feet to come to a halt.

The Mariner shows its age, however, in terms of comfort and space. Cargo volume stands at a useful 29 cubic feet with the rear seat in place and 66 cubic feet when that seat is folded down not bad given the Mariner's relatively compact footprint.

Driving Impressions

The 2011 Mercury Mariner feels reasonably secure during quick changes of direction, and its ride quality is pleasantly supple.

In 2009, the Mariner adopted more significant power train updates. A third power train is offered in the Mariner Hybrid, which is virtually identical to the award-winning Ford Escape Hybrid. The technology in this version of the Mariner crossover couples a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with a full hybrid system combining an electric motor system. The Mariner's somewhat upright look translates into plenty of interior space. Safety scores for the Mariner crossover have been strong. Features like Ford's voice-controlled SYNC system have kept the Mariner somewhat up to speed.

National base price of 2011 Mercury Mariner is around $ 23,565 which excludes destination charges.

Some optional features offered with base model are moon roof, roof rack, sync, power driver seat, leather upholstery and ambient interior lighting.

2010 Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Concept

2010 Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Concept in silver

Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Concept it is powered by the Gallardo Superleggera’s 5.2-liter V10 and has an overall curb weight of just 999 kilograms (2,202 lb). With its amazing output of 570 hp, sensational power-to-weight ratio of only 1.75 kilograms per hp and 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration of only 2.5 seconds. At the same time, fuel consumption also drops because of the extreme lightweight engineering applied throughout.

This makes the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento a unique demonstration of the technological expertise of Automobile Lamborghini. Innovative carbon-fiber technologies are being used here for the first time in an automotive application.

It’s like the 4-door Es toque and retro Miura, the Sesto Elemento looks more like a Gallardo – Lamborghini’s smallest and lightest current model – just drove through a razor-filled car wash.

2010 Volvo XC90

2010 Volvo XC90 in red colour

Volvo does things a little differently from other premium brands in the automotive world. For this Swedish manufacturer, safety and kid-friendliness are just as important as luxury amenities and driving performance, and in no vehicle is this more apparent than the Volvo XC90, a mid size seven-passenger SUV.

Innovative safety features aside, the 2010 XC90 is merely adequate relative to the premium mid size SUV competition. Zestier performance is available elsewhere, as are more cavernous cargo holds. With more and more modern competitors measuring up to Volvo's high safety standards, the aging XC90 isn't the slam dunk for families that Volvo products used to be. It remains capable, though, and arguably safer than ever thanks to some new tricks.

The Volvo XC90 is available in two versions: 3.2 and V8. Available with front- or all-wheel drive, the 3.2 is the entry-level model and carries a 3.2-liter in line six-cylinder engine rated for 235 horsepower. Mileage suffers a bit on the XC90 V8, but the 311-hp 4.4-liter V8 provides strong acceleration, moving this 4,600-pound SUV to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds. All-wheel drive is standard with the V8.

The 3.2 comes with five-passenger seating (with the third-row seat optional), while the V8 comes with seven-passenger seating. As this is a premium SUV, almost all major safety and convenience features are included, even on the base model. Major options include a rear entertainment system with dual screens, a DVD-based navigation system, a Dolby Pro Logic II surround-sound audio system and an interior air quality system, as well as an ultra-luxurious executive package for the V8 model.

Easily one of the safest SUVs on the market, the 2010 Volvo XC90 pioneered Roll Stability Control. This bit of technology uses a gyro sensor to identify every SUV owner's greatest fear, a potential rollover, and activates the stability control system to try to avert it. Another interesting feature is the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), which monitors images from a pair of cameras mounted in the side mirrors and warns the driver via an indicator light when another vehicle moves into the XC90's blind spot. Of course, the XC90 also provides staples like side curtain airbag protection for all three rows, anti-whiplash seats and an emergency communications system. Volvo crash safety is legendary, and indeed, this mid size SUV has scored well in NHTSA and IIHS testing.

we've found that the 2010 XC90 drives just as you'd expect a safe, heavy 2010 Volvo SUV to drive. Ride quality is smooth and the cabin stays quiet, while handling is competent but not particularly sporty. Equipped with AWD, the XC90 makes an excellent snow vehicle but isn't intended for serious off-road romps. V8-powered models are considerably more satisfying to drive than six-cylinder XC90s.Despite its advancing age, the seven-passenger

Volvo XC90 is one of our top recommendations for families shopping for an SUV. Although its on-road performance is merely average as luxury SUVs go, the XC90 still offers a winning combination of safety, solidity and style.

Kia POP Concept

Kia POP Concept side angle view

Kia has released new images of its POP Concept, the three-seater compact electric vehicle created by the company's European design team and characterized by the asymmetrical layout, futuristic interior and original door opening system.

First previewed back in August, the Kia POP concept was designed by Kia's European design team under the direction of Peter Schreyer, Kia's Chief Design Officer, and Gregory Guillaume, Kia Europe's Chief Designer.

The design study has a futuristic interior that mixes organic shapes with simple lines. The exterior is characterized by the almost-triangular silhouette, with the side windows shaped like tilted rounded rectangles.

The original door opening system features an asymmetrial side-hinged rear door, while the side doors swing diagonally - a middle way between scissors and gullwing doors.

"A concept car like the POP could only have come from us," has commented Gregory Guillaume. "Designers very rarely have the opportunity to start from a clean sheet of paper and it's great to be in a position to operate with such freedom."

MG zero concept

MG zero concept front angle view

The Zero was one of the surprises of the Beijing show, and represents the best example of the new 'Facet Flow' MG form language that the design teams in Shanghai and UK have been developing. In terms of exterior surfaces, this car appears close to production and SAIC expects the Zero to compete with the Ford Fiesta and Fiat's Grande Punto to attract entry-level younger customers. Program Manager Sam Sun explained the thinking behind the design: "There's a misunderstanding by many younger Chinese buyers about what a sporty car should be – there's real confusion with aftermarket customizing, which is not our aim."

The sporty feeling is taken further than the MG6, with a greater emphasis on the dominant lower grille, use of a lozenge pattern throughout, including grille, door handles, DI lamps and texture in the lower grille, and a roof featuring a see-through abstracted union flag motif. The Zero uses an all-new platform from SAIC, called EP, which crucially allows for fitment of larger wheels than is the norm in China, to ensure a more European stance to the car.

The best part of the Zero is undoubtedly the interior, which demonstrates a higher level of sophistication and new ideas compared to most concepts seen here today. A slim horizontal console connects to the driver's seat in a quasi-octagon motif, and a lower center console runs through into the rear seat. The lozenge theme is continued in the seats, which feature red MG logos that illuminate through the fabric. Further red highlights are created using LEDS in the door lining, steering wheel rim, plus ambient lighting used in the footwells. "We've decided to offer this high contrast black and white theme on one trim level for production too" explains Sam Sun. Overall, the interior reminds in some ways of a sportier version of the VW Up! but that's not to detract from the freshness of the design quality. SAIC expects production to start later this year, with sales in Europe targeted in their plans.

2011 Peugeot 408

Peugeot 408 in siver colour

Peugeot is launching a new sedan Peugeot 408 in China. But this is not the successor of 407 but the sedan version of the Peugeot 308. This model is designed special for growth market countries and produced by the joint venture companies in China namely Peugeot Dongfeng.

Peugeot 408 using low-cost platform with MacPherson front suspension (front) and torsion-beam (rear). Although not an ideal choice for those who crave handling and ride refinement, but still quite satisfactory for the needs of developing countries who tend to prefer a roomy car with a friendly price.

Compared to 308, a longer platform, especially to provide spacious space for rear passengers. Be extended 2710mm wheelbase, or a 100mm longer than the Peugeot 308 hatchback. With the addition of the rear trunk, total length of 4680mm or 400mm so longer than 308.

With the curved roof design, the Peugeot 408 is not too much like 308. Especially with the new barrel design, making it more elegant than 308. The remaining fairly similar, especially the rear. using the same 308 dashboard.

While the powertrain (engine and transmission) somewhat out of date for developed countries in Europe. But not too bad for developing countries. 1.6-liter engine can produce maximum power of 110hp and 2.0-liter engine can be 147hp. Engine with VVT technology has been removed from Peugeot models in circulation there.

2011 BMW X6M Typhoon S

BMW X6M Typhoon S front view

G-POWER is proud to present one of the world's most powerful BMW X6 M models. The X6 M modified by G-POWER boasts a TYPHOON S body kit, a titanium exhaust system and an output of 725 hp.

The TYPHOON S body kit, derived from the TYPHOON wide-body kit, enables an increase in cooling performance of up to 15% for the 4.4l V8 twin-turbo power unit in the BMW X6 M, paving the way for an increase of 170 hp in base output, taking it to a formidable 725 hp.

G-POWER X6 M TYPHOON S

  • 725 hp / 533 KW @ 6,000 r/min (+ 170 hp / 125 kW)

  • 890 Nm from 1,500 r/min (+ 210 Nm)

  • Top speed > 300 km/h

  • 0-100 km/h: 4.2s

  • TYPHOON S aerodynamic package: starts at € 6,990.00 (net)

  • G-POWER performance increase for BMW X6 M: starts at € 13,526.05 (net)

The first thing that stands out about the G-POWER X6 M TYPHOON S is the redesigned front skirt that completely replaces the original part. Designed to emulate the G-POWER TYPHOON wide-body kit, the front skirt with large air intakes delivers the characteristic aesthetic of the BMW X6 M. The carefully honed profile also facilitates a reduction of aerodynamic lift on the front axle. Another factor in the balanced look of the X6 TYPHOON S is the G-POWER bonnet made entirely from carbon-fibre. Equipped with a central Venturi-effect engine bay vent for cooling while in motion and two lateral ABS grilles for stationary ventilation, it ensures improved dissipation from the engine compartment of hot air generated by the two turbochargers.

The G-POWER add-ons to the standard sills provide a visual transition between the wheel arches, which are filled with forged 3-part G-POWER SILVERSTONE RS aluminium wheels measuring 11x23 and 12x23 inches (also available in 22-inch). When it comes to tyres, G-POWER sticks resolutely to 315/25 ZR 23 high-performance rubber from its development partner Michelin. They deliver optimum traction and sporty handling that is further enhanced by G-POWER sports springs and a stance lowered by 30 mm.

The package is rounded off at the back of the G-POWER BMW X6 M TYPHOON S by the diffuser made entirely of carbon fibre. It provides the perfect frame for the 4 x 125 mm tail pipes on the G-POWER titanium exhaust system, which are also made from carbon-fibre.

In keeping with the dynamic look of the BMW X6 M TYPHOON S, G-POWER also offers a suitably impressive power increase to 725 hp. Thanks to the enlarged air intakes in the front skirt and the vents in the bonnet, there is an increase in the flow of cold air to the water and oil coolers at the front of the vehicle. This improves their cooling performance by around 15% each, forming the basis for a thermally stable power increase using one the electronic optimization techniques developed by G-POWER to modify the engine mapping, including removal of the top speed limiter. On the exhaust side, a full stainless steel G-POWER system (also available in titanium) delivers the necessary reduction in exhaust gas pressure. Alongside the use of sports catalytic converters, this is largely attributable to the flow-optimised G-POWER exhaust manifold. Optimised connecting channels also run between the turbochargers and cylinder heads to minimise pressure and shock losses. The outcome is an additional 170 hp, taking the total output to a formidable 725 hp at 6,000 r/min and 890 Nm of torque as of 1,500 r/min. The maximum torque is electronically limited in order to avoid overloading the standard transmission. In combination with a reinforced transmission, a maximum torque measuring an immense 1,000 Nm can be realised.

The enormous power potential of the G-POWER modified BMW V8 twin-turbo power unit imbue the X6 M with performance levels that catapult it into the very upper echelons of its class. The sprint to 100 km/h takes just 4.2 seconds, while top speed is more than 300 km/h.

If required, G-POWER can finish the interior to individual specifications with handmade leather and Alcantara upholstery.

The TYPHOON S aerodynamic package is available starting at € 6,990.00 (net) excl. installation at G-POWER in Autenzell. Pricing for the 23-inch G-POWER SILVERSTONE RS wheel set with MICHELIN tyres is € 8,865.55 (net) and the G-POWER power increase to 725 hp incl. full stainless steel exhaust system and modified connection to the turbochargers starts at € 13,526.05 (net) excl. installation (titanium exhaust system optional).

The company G-POWER:

G-POWER was established in 1983 and has ever since exclusively focused on tuning BMW automobiles and producing exclusive one-of-a-kinds. In 2008, the brand celebrated its 25-year anniversary and today, it is one of the most renowned providers on the global market. By developing the world-wide strongest versions of the most important BMW engines in-house, G-POWER significantly stands out from its competitors. G-POWER holds various world records and its 800 hp strong BMW M5 Hurricane RR is the fastest limousine in the world. G-POWER is holding the following records:

  • fastest LPG-driven car with the 660 hp G-POWER M5 HURRICANE GS, delivering a top speed of 333 km/h

  • fastest BMW saloon with the 730 hp G-POWER M5 HURRICANE, delivering a top speed of 360 km/h

  • fastest 4-seat coupé with the 740 hp G-POWER M6 HURRICANE CS, delivering a top speed of more than 370 km/h

  • fastest saloon car with the 800 hp G-POWER M5 HURRICANE RR, delivering a top speed of 372 km/h

BAC MONO - AN ENTHRALLING NEW SINGLE-SEAT PERFORMANCE CAR DESIGNED AND BUILT BY ENTHUSIASTS FOR ENTHUSIASTS

Enthusiasts the world over dream of designing and building their own car. What set the Cheshire-born brothers Neill and Ian Briggs apart from most, is that they had the automotive qualifications and experience to do just that, and put the result into production for others to enjoy - enter the BAC MONO.

MONO (as in monoposto, or single seat) was designed to bring formula race car levels of handling, performance and thrill to the public road, but it's also the perfect trackday tool, racing school car, one-make series racer, etc. At 520 bhp / ton, its power to weight ratio surpasses that of the Bugatti Veyron and it can accelerate to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds, 100 mph in 6.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 170 mph. The car is also an object of engineering perfection and desire, courtesy of the Briggs brothers' 15 years experience of the motor industry, during which time they've handled design and engineering consultancy projects for the likes of Ford Motor Company, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche, through their company Adaptive Space.

Of British conception, MONO combines the very best of all automotive worlds. Its aerodynamics were optimised using CFD in partnership with Stuttgart University, while its list of suppliers reads like a Who's Who of the international motorsport industry. The vehicle is constructed in carbon fibre with a tubular steel driver safety cell, complete with FIA-compliant roll over protection system - similar in concept to a DTM race car. Power comes from a 280 bhp, normally-aspirated 2.3-litre Cosworth unit mounted longitudinally and mated to an electronically-controlled, paddle-shift, six-speed sequential Hewland transmission with limited-slip differential. The rose-jointed, aero profiled pushrod suspension features adjustable Sachs Racing dampers derived from the heat of competition. The braking is by AP Racing, the bespoke HRT alloy wheels by OZ Racing, the purpose-developed, street-legal track tyres by Kumho, and the vehicle electronics and instrumentation by GEMS.

The driver is secured by a full six-point racing harness by Willans and there is a secure locker in which to store a helmet and the detachable steering wheel when parked. The seat is fixed for safety and optimum weight distribution (48/52 front to rear), and drivers of varying shapes and sizes can be readily accommodated thanks to the fully adjustable pedal box and steering column that can be altered for both height and rake. There is even the option of an F1-style fully-profiled seat.

Said Ian Briggs (BAC stands for Briggs Automotive Company): "MONO is the culmination of a 12-year dream for us - the car we wanted to own but nobody else made." Neill Briggs added: "All cars are built to order on a first-come, first-served basis and our flexible production facility has the capacity to manufacture between 50 and 100 vehicles per year - or more if demand requires. All I can currently say is, the early response has been extremely encouraging."

At £79,950 (including UK taxes), the BAC MONO is not only highly desirable but eminently affordable. For further details, log onto www.bac-mono.com.

2011 Volkswagen Eos

2011 Volkswagen Eos in motor show

2011 Volkswagen Eos is VW’s inexpensive alternative to the BMW 3-series convertible or the Lexus IS convertible. It’s possible that you’ve never heard of the Eos, VW’s midsize convertible. Ford Mustang? Mini Cooper? The 2011 Eos isn’t cheap; the base model starts at $32,940. If you can afford a more expensive car, try convertibles like the BMW 3-Series and the Lexus IS. The BMW 1-Series convertible also falls in this category, but it’s smaller and less expensive. The base price is $34,500.

Beyond the talented top, the Eos provides an enjoyable drive thanks in part to the standard turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 engine. The Mini Cooper?

The Volkswagen Eos is a front-wheel-drive, two-door hardtop convertible with seating for four. The Lux model adds daytime running lights, power-folding heated outside mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming rearview and driver's outside mirrors, burled walnut cabin accents, leather upholstery, power passenger seat, power front seat lumbar adjustments and an easy-entry function for rear passengers.

Options for the Komfort are few and include ground effects (lower body skirting), a rear lip spoiler and 18-inch wheels. All Volkswagen Eos models are powered by the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, which makes 200 hp and 207 pound-feet of torque. Lux models are available with the dual-clutch automated manual only.

The fuel economy ratings for the 2011 Eos with the manual are 21 mpg city/31 mpg highway and 25 mpg combined.

Standard on all 2011 VW Eos models are antilock disc brakes, stability control and front seat side airbags.

In Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash testing, the 2011 VW Eos earned the top rating of "Good" for both frontal-offset and side-impact tests.

The chief attraction of the Eos is its five-piece retractable hardtop.

The VW Eos is designed for those who want a relaxed touring convertible. Both transmissions are nicely executed, but we suspect the typical Eos buyer will be happier with the automated manual. As expected, the retractable hardtop provides coupelike isolation when the weather prevents top-down motoring.

Landing somewhere between the budget rent-a-car cruiser convertibles, like the Chrysler 200 and the Volkswagen New Beetle, and drop-top sports cars like the Mazda Miata or Audi TT, is the Volkswagen Eos.

The Eos is so often omitted because it's bland. All VW Eos convertibles come with the same engine: a 2.0-liter, 200-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder. If you're in the front seat, the 2011 VW Eos is a very comfortable place; the seating and driving position is just a little more laid-back than in Volkswagen's other cars, and the seats themselves feel a bit better-bolstered than in its lower-priced models like the Golf. The 2011 Volkswagen Eos comes in Komfort and Lux models, with some high-end options like a sport package, Dynaudio surround system, and hard-drive-based navigation with music storage all available on the Lux.

2011 Mercury Grand Marquis

2011 Mercury Grand Marquis in blue color

Mercury brand vehicles concluding late 2010, the 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis will experience a shortened model year. With 224 horsepower managed through a 4-speed automatic gearbox, the 2011 Grand Marquis fuel economy is rated at 16 miles per gallon city or 24 miles per gallon highway. Anti-lock braking system and traction control is standard safety equipment but electronic stability control is not available on the 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis. Standard convenience equipment on all 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis sedans includes an AM/FM stereo with CD player, leather upholstery, cruise control, power windows and remote keyless entry.

The Mercury Grand Marquis is unchanged for 2011, this car's final year of production.

Sadly, they don't make 'em like the Mercury Grand Mercury Marquis for a variety of other, more important reasons. The car's handling is ponderous and the steering is slow, so you don't have much confidence in the car's ability to stay under control. As it goes to the big garage in the sky with the rest of its Mercury family, the 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis leaves behind a wealth of impressive, thoroughly modern big sedans that provide the comfort, space, performance and fuel economy today's buyers should expect, along with a few modern conveniences the Mercury Grand Marquis never got around to offering. The Mercury Grand Marquis is survived by its cousin, the Lincoln Town Car.

2011 Grand Marquis Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options

The 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis is a full-size sedan that seats six people. Standard equipment includes 17-inch wheels, rear air suspension, automatic headlights, foglamps, keyless entry, automatic climate control, a 50/50 split front bench with six-way driver and passenger power adjustability, power-adjustable pedals, leather upholstery, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a tilting leather-wrapped steering wheel and a CD player stereo. Options include heated seats, a leather-wood steering wheel and a cassette player.

The rear-wheel-drive 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis is powered by a 4.6-liter V8 good for only 224 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. A four-speed automatic is standard. Fuel economy is 16 mpg city/24 mpg highway and 19 combined. That's a big improvement over 1978, but pretty disappointing today given this car's meager power.

Safety

Standard safety equipment includes antilock disc brakes, traction control and front-seat side airbags. Neither stability control nor side curtain airbags is offered. Nonetheless, the Mercury Grand Marquis has fared well in crash tests by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, scoring a perfect five stars for both frontal and side impacts. The Mercury Grand Marquis' general interior design hasn't really been changed since...goodness, we can't even remember. We have a sneaking suspicion, though, that most Mercury Grand Marquis buyers won't care.

The vehicle comes with a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty. This warranty continues even after the basic warranty has expired. The basic warranty covers everything except normal wear and tear on the car. The Mercury Grand Marquis receives 12 mpg city and 17 mpg highway miles, making it a leading choice in gas mileage amongst its competition. Front head restraints are both adjustable for a more pleasurable ride, and the Mercury Grand Marquis offers 39.5 in. front headroom, 37.8 in. rear headroom, 57.4 in. front hip room, 56.1 in. rear hip room, 41.6 in. front leg room, 38.0 in. rear leg room, 60.6 in. front shoulder room, 60.0 in. rear shoulder room and 107.5 cu ft. interior volume. Riding in the Mercury Grand Marquis offers a comfortable ride every time.

2012 Porsche Panamera Turbo S

2012 Porsche Panamera Turbo S side view in silver colour

Porsche will reveal its most powerful Panamera for the first time in North America on April 20, 2011 at the New York International Auto Show.

The engine in the new top-of-the-line Panamera is based on the already proven and powerful twin-turbocharged V8 engine in the Panamera Turbo. The 4.8 liter, V8 engine in the Turbo S achieves a maximum output of 550 horsepower, which is 10 percent more than the 500 horsepower delivered by the Panamera Turbo. The torque is also increased over the Turbo from 516 lb-ft to 553 lb-ft. In the "Sport" and "Sport Plus" mode of the standard Sport Chrono Package Turbo, the overboost function can temporarily generate additional torque with a peak rating of 590 lb.-ft.

The power increase delivered in the Panamera Turbo S can be attributed to two main enhancements: new twin turbochargers with titanium–aluminum turbines and a modified engine control. Titanium–aluminum reduces the turbine and compressor wheel's weight, which results in a quicker turbo response that improves the engine's agility.

The formidable powerplant that lies beneath the hood of the Panamera Turbo S is capable of propelling it to sports-car sprint times. With the help of Launch Control, the newest Panamera can reach 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds. The top track speed is 190 mph. And despite this increased performance, fuel consumption is expected to remain comparable to the Panamera Turbo that delivers an EPA estimated rating of 15 mpg city/23 mpg highway (18 mpg combined). Official EPA fuel economy estimates for the Panamera Turbo S will be available when the car goes on sale in North America.

Even for a world-class luxury car, the Panamera Turbo S boasts an extraordinarily high level of comprehensive features. In keeping with its sporty concept, it comes equipped with the most important driving-dynamic control systems. For example, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) is an active anti-roll system that significantly reduces lateral body movement during corning, which enhances stability, handling and overall occupant comfort. Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) is also standard and works to help ensure superior traction and higher-performance cornering by applying a variable torque split to the rear wheels in combination with an electronically controlled rear differential lock. Also standard is Porsche's advanced speed-sensitive Servotronic steering system, a sports exhaust system, and the Sport Chrono Package Turbo that further tunes the engine and suspension at the touch of the "Sport Plus" button.

While the sporting character of the new Panamera Turbo S is most apparent behind the wheel, the car's exterior tastefully exudes its high-performance ambitions. The new 20-inch Turbo II wheels with increased rear axle track width, side skirts from the Porsche Exclusive range and the adaptive four-way extending rear spoiler express the car's elite performance abilities. Inside, the fusion of exclusivity and sportiness is conveyed in the interior by the standard bi-color leather finish. A new combination of black/cream is offered exclusively for the new Panamera Turbo S with Agate Grey/cream also being added as an exclusive option later this year. Agate Gray Metallic will also be an exclusive exterior color.

The new Porsche Panamera Turbo S will go on sale in the U.S. later this spring, and will have a base MSRP of $173,200, excluding $975 for delivery and destination.
